PNG Employment Act Reform
13th May, 2025

This policy brief, developed through the Investment Climate Reform (ICR) Facility in collaboration with the Business Coalition for Women (BCFW), presents a clear and evidence-based case for reforming Papua New Guinea’s Employment Act. It highlights critical legal gaps—such as the absence of paid maternity and paternity leave, and discriminatory clauses that restrict women’s participation in the workforce—and offers practical recommendations to create a more inclusive labour market. Strengthening gender equality in employment is not only a matter of rights, but a catalyst for improved business performance, workforce productivity, and national economic growth.
